Katie L Clark

For as long as I can remember I've loved tiny spaces. When I was a little kid I loved hanging out in our shed. Yep. That's right. In the shed. I used to take out the bikes and things we stored in there and popped in chairs and things to make my own little space. I had one of those plastic toy houses in the garden... I just loved having my own little space. I've never been fussed about having a big space, just a little den to call my own.

A few years ago I discovered the tiny house movement, and literally dived in head first. I feel like I'm at a point now where I've pretty much seen it all, my largest Pinterest board is my tiny spaces one... I've watched almost every tiny house/RV/camper tour I can find.

I just wanted to use this post to explain my reasons why I want to live tiny. I'm not trying to convert anyone to tiny house living, because I know it's not for everyone. I just wanted to share something I really love and explain to you guys why I love it so much!

I love the minimalist aesthetic. I like clean lines, the lack of clutter. I love white space.

But I also love comfort. I love pretty things that make me happy.

For a while last year, I exercised a lot of self-control. I didn't decorate in the way I wanted to, I got rid of trinkets that just gathered dust. I didn't want to be surrounded by clutter. This is great in so many ways, I'm now able to focus on what's important to me. I have the time to enjoy life...but I still have plenty of possessions. I'm not an Instagram-worthy minimalist. I don't have white walls, with a white bed.... that has one pillow. I don't wear monochromatic clothes. I love patterns and color. And I'm happy to admit all of this, I'm happy to accept myself as I am.

I love watching Jenny Mustard and Rachel Aust, I love reading their content. But I don't want to recreate their lives.

In this chaotic age, where we're all balancing 101 different commitments and life things, slow living and minimalism are becoming ever more important.

I took up minimalism because I didn't want to deal with unnecessary stresses, but what areas am I minimising specifically?

One thing I'm working towards at the moment is becoming more of a minimalist. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but with my blog redesign, I've introduced a drop-down menu of categories in the navigation bar... One of the new categories is "minimalism"

This post is not only an introduction for all of you who are either thinking of decluttering over this Christmas period and those who have no idea about the details of minimalism but also an introduction to my version of minimalism.

I've begun the road to minimalism recently... It started with a Pinterest board. As with most of these ventures, and it extended out to life. In all honesty, I think this obsession begun with the blog. My blog used to be quite cluttered and then I've cut back and I'm now admiring the amount of white space. This then has transferred to how I'm treating the interiors and now makeup and fashion.

What Minimalism Means To Me

To me, minimalism isn't about having x amount of items. It's about prioritising. It's about cutting back. If you had 100 pairs of shoes, you'll end up with more shoes at the end of the road than someone who started with 10.
In this sense I follow the KonMari method by Marie Kondo which I shall explain fully in a minute.
I believe we need to priotise on what we own so that we can clearly see and focus on that which makes us happy. If I own 5 wonderful dresses that I treasure, that seems more meaningful than 50 that I don't have opinions on.

About me

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. I'm Katie, a philosophy and law graduate from the UK. This is my little life and style blog, where I discuss any issues I feel are important to me and those that interest me.

I love minimalism, I'm trying to decrease the amount of waste I produce and I've been vegetarian my whole life. And so there will be some posts on sustainability and things.

But I also love a lighthearted post every now and then. I love a good beauty post, I focus on skincare and occasionally I'll share my opinions on the Korean music scene from the perspective of an older, long-term fan of the genre.

There's a lot going on, it might be chaos... but this is me.

This is my life. Enjoy!
